Garmin Forerunner 220

Garmin Forerunner 220 Review

love my Garmin Forerunner 220. When looking for running watching a couple years ago I was slightly overwhelmed with all of the choices. I asked around a lot, and of course read up on all of the latest watches.

Live Track

One thing that really caught my attention, and Morgan’s, was the “Live Track” feature. Morgan was concerned with getting me a watch that would allow him to see where I am running, and the Forerunner 220 offers that.

I often run by myself and early in the morning so Morgan is concerned with my safety, so being able to see where I am at makes him (and me) feel better.

The Live Track feature allows you to invite anyone (via email) to see where you are running. You can edit this for every run. I just always keep Morgan and my parents email so they always know where I am. It is also a good motivator to keep running because they can also see when you stop and your pace!

In order to use Live Track you must have your phone with you, and have the Bluetooth setting on. I like running with my phone anyways because it allows me to listen to music, while also serving as a safety feature.

Garmin Forerunner 220 GPS

Prior to purchasing this watch I had been using a Nike watch that only had a timing feature. I did not know distance when I was running so I had to know my mile makers to figure out my pace.

One thing I was really looking for in a watch was a good GPS feature. The GPS feature not only allows me to see my distance while running, but it also gives me my pace the whole time and breaks down my pace for me after my run.

The GPS also tracks elevation, which is helpful when questioning why my pace slows up or gets faster. It is nice to know how my running changes when I am running uphill or downhill.

Garmin Forerunner 220 Connect

I love this feature! I can connect my watch to my computer using the USB cord/charger that comes with the watch. You have the option of creating a free account on and each time you run your runs are automatically uploaded on your account. I like this feature because I can then look at the route I took, the elevation, and the pace during the whole run.

My type A personality likes being able to analyze my runs.

Garmin Forerunner 220 Record Keeping

This feature is great because it tells you after each run if you set any new records. The first time I ran it was really awesome because it told me I set a new record in furthest run, fastest run, and faster 5k. Lol.

Now each time I run it will tell me if I ran my fastest mile, furthest distance, fastest 5k, fastest half marathon, or fastest marathon. It is a nice feature and a great way to motivate of challenge yourself to get better.

Garmin Forerunner 220 Face

One fabulous thing about the watch (they are so many fabulous things!) is the easy to read face. The screen lights up with a simple push of a button, and the numbers are big enough and easy to read.

As I am running the watch will tell me my current pace and current distance.

Garmin Forerunner 220 specs

The Garmin Forerunner 220 has a lot of great other things about it. It is a lightweight watch, easy to operate, rarely needs charged, and is waterproof.

I rarely need to charge my watch. It comes with a charger to plug in to an outlet (you can also remove the outlet charger and hook it up to your computer). The watch will tell me during my run when the battery is getting low, and that usually means (for me at least) I still have 5 miles (per my pace) before the watch dies.

I also run in the rain with my watch and do not have to worry. One thing I would NOT attempt (but I have done this) is to let your watch go through the washer. I am normally very good about taking my watch off right away and putting it in the same spot every day.

However, after my last trip to Chicago it got tossed in my suitcase and must have gotten tucked in some clothes because when I opened my washing machine I saw my watch. Hysteria broke loose at my house.

I went into a slight (HUGE) panic mode. I thought I had just flushed money down he drain.

I turned on the power button and voila, it turned on! Nothing happened to my watch and it still works perfectly. Now like I said, I would NEVER recommend doing this, but accidents happen. It is nice however to see how awesome this watch is that a little water won’t hurt it 😉

So do not worry when running outside and you’re in the midst of a downpour!

I love my watch and have always been very, very happy with it.

If you’re interested in one, head over to Garmin to purchase your Forerunner 220! They are currently on sale for $199. I got mine for $249.00 and it was one of the best investments I have made while running. I am a 100% satisfied customer 🙂
