Great River Bridge Race

The Great River Bridge race is held in Burlington, Iowa every May.  You have the option of running a 2-mile race, or 6 miles.  I like this race because ALL of the proceeds go to local charities, and you can specify which charity you would like your money to go towards.

The race starts and ends in downtown Burlington, along the beautiful Mississippi.  My favorite part of the course is running up Snake Alley.  Yes, I said running up! According to Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Snake Alley is the “Crookedest Street in the World.”

Bridge Race

I have run this race twice, and have enjoyed both times.  This was my first “official” race in 2009, and I was extremely nervous!  I finished the race and became instantly hooked to the feeling of crossing the finish line.

My brothers (little) at the time ran the 2-mile portion of the race and were there to cheer me on at the finish.  They had water and bananas waiting for me.  How cute 🙂
