Keeping my fitness while not running

One of my major concerns about not running is the ability to keep up my cardiovascular fitness. Thank goodness for swimming! I have really enjoyed swimming laps in the morning and it eases my worry about losing my fitness.

Swimming also makes me look really good.


Today after my 30 minutes of swimming I got on the Stair Master for 20 minutes and then headed back home to get ready for work. I swam 18 laps this morning, which is 1/4 mile. Honestly, that doesn’t mean much to me since I am new to swimming. However, it is my goal every morning to swim at least 18 laps now.

I’ve been swimming the freestyle stroke because that is all I know how to do. I figured once I feel more comfortable with that I’ll try and learn another stroke.

My friend Haley and I are going to start lifting together in the evening and attending a cardio class. I love working out with people so I am thrilled to have my friend join me!

Once I start running again I will fit that in before we lift weights and the cardio class.

If you like oats and bananas you must try this EASY overnight breakfast!



  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 1 banana, mashed
  • cinnamon to flavor

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, cover, and let sit in fridge over night. Easy!

Not related to running…

Charlie has officially been my dog for five years now! He turned 5 on August 23, and we got him on October 19, 2010 so yesterday was his 5th “homecoming” birthday.

I am absolutely obsessed with him. He’s the most perfect, loyal, loving, cutest dog in the world.


And this drove me nuts all day. I use the gel nails polish/UV lamp method and love it. My polish stays on for two weeks, but someone I didn’t get this finger painted as well. My OCD mind was going crazy today.


Alright have a great night! Morgan and I are going to┬ádo some yard work and I’m trying to master Fur Elise, so I need to hit the piano bench.
