Rest days are just as important as running! I had a rest day today, which was needed. I had plans this evening, so running afters school would have been a tight squeeze so it was nice that I had the day off.
Rest days in general do great things for us both mentally and physically. I love running, but I do like my rest days. Sometimes it is just nice to be a little lazy.
I’ve talked about rest days before so I won’t talk about it too much, other than the fact they are so important!
Rest days allow your body to recover, which is critical when you are training. You will not get better/faster if you do not allow your body to rest and repair itself. I also believe rest days are just as much mentally rewarding as they are physical.
Following a rest day I look forward to running the next day. I have four miles + core scheduled tomorrow, and then 8 on Sunday.
In the past I have attempted a zero rest day training cycle and it didn’t work. I became burnt out both physically and mentally. I do best with 1-2 rest days, which I think is quite common for most half and full marathon plans.
After school today one of my best friends, Heather, picked me up and we headed downtown. This was the second annual “Ladies Night Out” in Ottumwa. It promotes local businesses downtown and is a great chance to explore our downtown, eat, drink, and just have a good time. We went last year and had a blast, so we were looking forward to it this year.
They even rented a trolley for the occasion!
I am hoping to get in a lot of yard work tomorrow, but we will see! There is a lot of rain in the forecast.
Yes, I will run in the rain (as long as it is not lightening!).
I will also be working on my menu for next week, so once I get that created I’ll share my ideas!
Have a great Friday! Charlie and I are watching the Diane Sawyer interview right now. I commend Bruce Jenner on his bravery to speak about this issue.
I don’t care if you are pink, purple, gay, lesbian, heterosexual. As long as you are a nice person. Oh, and like dogs 🙂
Happy Friday night!
