Rest days are just as important as any other day in regards to training.
Rest days are not only physically beneficial, but they are mentally beneficial (at least for me).
Here are the main reasons you need a rest day or two:
When I am marathon training I look forward to my rest days for those reasons. I LOVE running, but I know that it takes a toll on my body and the only way to allow my body to repair itself and get stronger is to rest.
The days where I run back to back I make sure to run at the same time so I have 24 hours in between runs to allow more time to rest and repair.
I don’t get as burnout during the summer as I do during winter, so my rest days give me something to look forward to!
I don’t want to make it sound like I get mentally tired of running, but it is nice to have a day or two off each week so I can be lazy and get some extra sleep.
So the next time you have a rest day, enjoy it!
