Typical upper body workout & some randoms.

This is yesterday’s workout. I got home from school around 4:30, worked out, had dinner, and my friend came over for a few hours so I didn’t get around to posting last night’s workout.

I ran for 50 minutes on the treadmill because it was ridiculously windy yesterday and it felt like 8 degrees (seriously!). I did an interval workout of running for 5 minutes, then walking for 5 minutes (all while watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix). I have an Apple TV hooked up downstairs so I have the luxury of Netflix while running. Without TV I think I would go nuts.

I did not have a specific interval routine in mind so I just made something up yesterday. When running I made to sure to run at a fast pace, but I’m not back to running super fast intervals just yet. I think my pace was around 8 minutes, or a 7.5 speed on the treadmill. I walked at a speed of 4.0.

I have my treadmill in my current basement (yes, we have actually purchased a new home!) and I enjoy it being downstairs. It is always cooler downstairs and the treadmill is loud, so if I am running early in the morning on it I won’t wake up Morgan.

Charlie also likes to chill out while I run downstairs.

After running I went upstairs to weight lift. I know, you’re probably wondering why my weights are upstair?! I usually lift weights and watch TV with Morgan in the evening, so by having my weights upstairs I can be semi-social while lifting.

I did my upper body routine and just used my 10 pound and 5 pound dumbbells.

Morgan wasn’t home from work yet so I just watched another episode of Gilmore Girl’s upstairs 🙂 Working out and watching Netflix is awesome.

For my upper body routine I did:

  • 3 sets (12 repetitions each) of bicep curls; 10 pound dumbbell each hand
  • 3 sets (12 repetitions each) triceps kickback; 10 pound dumbbell each each
  • 3 sets (12 repetitions each) military press, 5 pounds each hand
  • 3 sets (12 repetitions each) lateral arm raise, 5 pounds each hand
  • 3 sets (12 repetitions each) push-up

If I stay completely focused (meaning I don’t get distracted by Charlie or sitting on my couch to watch TV), this routine takes me less than 30 minutes.

Since I am easing back into strength training I started with low weights. I will increase repetitions, sets, and weights as I go.

After my workout I made a peanut butter/vanilla smoothie. Awesome.

This smoothie is so simple and so delicious!

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 handful (I never measure) steel cut oats
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp. peanut butter
  • 2 medjool dates
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds

Blend and enjoy!

My friend came over in the evening to catch up on Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead and to watch Son’s of Anarchy.

The Walking Dead- I more Darryl action.

SOA- Holy cow. I’ve been waiting for that ending for 10 weeks now! I won’t say anything else because I don’t want to spoil anything if you haven’t seen it yet!

Have a great night!
